Volume Magazine - Chappel Roan
This is easily my favorite project to date. I had the most fun working on this piece and am incredibly proud of how it turned out. For this assignment, we were asked to choose one of three magazine concepts—Rolling, Volume, or Downlow. Unsurprisingly, I chose the music-focused option.
For Volume, I designed a music magazine centered around a topic of my choice and selected Chappell Roan and her Lollapalooza performance as the feature. The project allowed me to explore publication design from concept to execution. I created the Volume masthead in Adobe Illustrator with the intention that it could be reused consistently across future issues, establishing a recognizable and flexible brand identity.
The overall magazine layout was developed in Adobe InDesign, where I built a structured grid system to guide composition and hierarchy. One of the biggest challenges of this project was sourcing high-resolution imagery, which pushed me to learn new research and image-selection techniques. Throughout the process, I strengthened my understanding of character and paragraph styles, grid-based layout, and the fundamentals of cohesive magazine design.
This project solidified my interest in publication design and showed me how much I enjoy the balance between structure and creativity that editorial work requires. It may very well be where my heart is headed.
